The Family of Marie Louise Eltzholtz and Hans Christian Hansen

(l to r:) Max Leo, Marie Louise, Gudrun Elly, Axel, Carl Johan and Hans Christian Hansen
.
Hans Christian Hansen was born in Svendborg, Denmark November 20, 1870, was babtized in the Sct. Nicolai Church in 1871 and was confirmed in April, 1885. He was the son of Christoffer Hansen and wife Henriette Christensen.
.
Marie Louise Eltzholtz was born at glorup, Svindinge Sogn April 21, 1872, was baptized in the church July 5, 1872 then confirmed in Svinninge Church on October 3, 1886. She was the daughter of Ditlev Christian Ernst Eltzholtz and his wife Anne Dorthea Kopp Eltzholtz from Ringe, Denmark.
.
Hans Christian was a bachelor and a bookkeepper in Ringe during the time Marie Louise would have been working around her father's business, Ditlev Eltzholtz and Company, also in Ringe. No document that I'm aware of indicates just how or when they met or how long they courted, but in a small community like Ringe they would have found each other fairly quickly and their courtship would have probably been very public.
.
Marie Louise Eltzholtz and Hans Chrisian Hansen were married at Jesuskirken in Valby outside Copenhagen on November 7, 1897. They had four children Max Leo, born December 24, 1898, Carl Johan, born December 23, 1904, Axel, born November 15, 1906 and Gudrun Elly, born January 14, 1910.
.
The children, when baptized, were given the family name Eltzholtz Juel Hansen. There is still some confusion as to when and where the name Juel appeared for Hans Christian Hansen, the father. Axel Eltzholtz wrote to me in January, 1973 and told me that Ditlev had a great wish that the name Eltzholtz should continue in Denmark, but Otto Eltzholtz was on the way to becoming an old bachelor and therefore something needed to be done. Ditlev wrote a letter to King Christian the X who gave the permission on November 30, 1922 to delete the Juel Hansen from the certificates of baptism so the Eltzholtz name continues in Denmark to this day.
